Common flag reference

g (global) finds every match instead of stopping at the first. i (ignore case) makes matching case-insensitive. m (multiline) makes ^ and $ match the start/end of each line rather than the whole string. s (dot all) makes . match newline characters too.

Frequently asked questions

Which regex flavor does this use?

JavaScript's native RegExp engine, since it runs entirely in your browser. Syntax is very similar to PCRE (used by most languages) but has some differences — lookbehind support varies by browser, and a few features (like atomic groups) aren't available at all.

Why does my pattern match differently than I expect?

Check your flags — the global (g) flag affects whether matching continues after the first result, and case-insensitive (i) and multiline (m) flags change behavior in ways that are easy to forget mid-testing.
