Pizza Calculator

How many pizzas to order for a group, based on slices per person.

Every calculation runs locally in your browser. 3 slices per person is a common default for a meal; adjust it down for an appetizer spread or up for a hungrier crowd.

Rounding up beats running short

Slices needed rarely divides evenly by slices per pizza, so this always rounds up to a whole pizza rather than a fraction — ordering "3.75 pizzas" isn't an option. The small surplus this creates is normally welcome: leftover pizza is a far more common problem to have than a hungry guest at the end of the night.

Frequently asked questions

How many slices does the average person eat?

A common planning estimate is 3 slices per adult at a meal, from a standard 8-slice pizza — appetite varies by age, other food served, and time of day, so adjust up for a dinner-only event or down if there are lots of sides.

Does pizza size affect the slice count assumption?

Yes — this calculator assumes a standard large pizza cut into 8 slices. A smaller or larger pizza, or a different number of cuts, changes how many pizzas you need for the same total slice count.
