Body Adiposity Index (BAI) Calculator
Estimate body fat percentage from hip circumference and height alone — no scale needed.
An estimate from a scale-free formula, not a body composition scan — accuracy tends to drop at the extremes of the height range. Not medical advice.

Why BAI doesn't need a scale at all
Body Adiposity Index was developed by Bergman et al. (2011) specifically to estimate body fat percentage without requiring body weight — only hip circumference and height. That makes it useful in settings without access to a reliable scale, though like BMI and the Navy circumference method, it's a population- level estimate rather than a direct measurement, and individual results can vary from more precise methods like DEXA scans.
Frequently asked questions
Why does BAI skip weight entirely?
BAI was designed as an alternative to BMI that doesn't require a scale — it estimates body fat from hip circumference and height alone, which can be useful when weight isn't available or reliable (like tracking across different scales).
Is BAI more accurate than BMI?
Research is mixed — BAI correlates reasonably well with body fat in some populations but has been shown to be less accurate than expected in others. It's best used as one data point alongside other measurements, not a standalone diagnosis.
