Beautify vs. minify
Beautified JSON uses 2-space indentation for readability during development and debugging. Minified JSON strips all whitespace, which reduces payload size for production APIs and config files where every byte counts. Both are generated from the same parsed structure, so switching between them never changes the underlying data — only its formatting.
Frequently asked questions
What does "beautify" actually change in my JSON?
It only adds whitespace — consistent indentation and line breaks — to make nested structure readable. The underlying data (keys, values, types) is completely unchanged; formatting is purely cosmetic.
Why does my JSON fail to validate?
Common culprits: trailing commas after the last item in an object or array, single quotes instead of double quotes, unquoted keys, or a missing closing bracket — all valid in JavaScript object literals but invalid in strict JSON.
